ReligionThe primary goal of our program is to help each child recognize their specialness and experience God’s love. It is important that we instill a love for all by treating others the way Jesus loves us. Prayer, Christ-like attitudes, and our faith in action including attendance at Mass are crucial to the spiritual development of your child.
ELA Language/Reading and WritingAll subjects including reading, spelling, grammar and writing skills are blended together to enhance language.
MathHands on experiences and the use of manipulatives provide students with an understanding of math concepts.
Homework HWHomework will be listed on our website. Each child is responsible for specific homework assignments. Reading word lists from homework must be practiced daily. Math written HW will be given weekly and due on Friday. Spelling is given weekly with a test at the end of each lesson. The website is updated regularly, please check it regularly.
Home FolderEach child will receive a sturdy folder to hold monthly calendars and other important papers. This folder is to be taken home each day. Loose papers may be taken out at the end of the week unless specified.
Calendar To reinforce the positive, a paper with specific behaviors will be marked. Unacceptable behavior will be indicated. An acceptable day will be indicated on the calendar side with a stamp, color or sticker. Please place your initials in boxes of unacceptable behaviors to show you have seen and discussed with your child. Keep the calendar paper in the folder.
CorrespondenceAll correspondence, notes and money should be in an envelope marked with the child’s name and room number (8).
All belongings should have proper identificationIt is recommended that all workbooks be covered with clear contact for easy identification. It is not necessary to cover copybooks or their reading books. Children need at least 5 sharpened pencils daily.
DismissalA note must accompany any change of dismissal lines. Or call the office before lunch to allow for proper notification.
DisciplinePlease be supportive as warnings are issued. Children need to be held responsible for their actions.
Snack RecessChildren may bring a healthy snack (no candy please) for snack recess. They may have a drink (water or juice bag) and a small snack..
BirthdaysBirthdays may be celebrated in our class only. No food items are allowed. Invitations to parties must be for all classmates or all gender specific classmates.
LunchPlease label lunch containers. Be sure to pack extra napkins to use as a place-mat. Lunch is eaten in the gym. Secure all lunch containers tightly. I am looking forward to working, growing and being a special part of your child’s first grade.
